Job Description for Acme Terracotta Cladding

Technical Support Designer

 Acme Brick Company is looking for a qualified candidate to staff the technical support department of its exterior cladding products division. The company has for 125 years brought quality manufactured brick and other materials to the building market. It has recently added large size format, thin terracotta and stone rainscreen panels to its product line up. A talented individual with an architectural training background is being sought to help design panel system applications and provide other support as needed for the cladding division.

Position Responsibilities

  • Research and document proposed system application compliance with applicable project specifications, technical requirements, and codes and regulations
  • Prepare preliminary system design drawings, details, and when necessary other presentation materials for proposed applications
  • Produce system component estimates on projects for bid quotations and detailed component take offs for project material delivery preparation
  • Prepare detailed shop drawings for project applications
  • Assist in coordinating architectural, construction, engineering, and other project details with the Acme cladding system details
  • Assist in the creation and updating of system technical support and marketing documentation as needed
  • Maintain project information records and prepare reports on project status and other data as necessary
  • Manage progress of multiple projects in coordination with sales team and other design staff through continuous follow-up with customers and consultants
  • Participate in new cladding product design and development efforts
  • Assist in other design oriented projects undertaken by Acme engineering and sales operations as needed 

Qualifications and Experience

  • Degree in Architecture, Construction, or Engineering from an accredited program
  •  Minimum of 4 years experience working in the architecture or building industry
  •  Working knowledge of design and construction principles and building codes
  • Must be capable of navigating building plan and specification details
  • Must be proficient in latest version of AutoCAD
  • Experience with working drawings required
  • Experience with shop drawings required
  • Experience with design detail development and documentation required
  • Experience with 3D modeling (AutoCAD, SketchUp, etc.) preferred
  • Knowledge of Bluebeam and/or Architectural Design Review programs desirable
  • Revit experience welcomed
  • Working knowledge of standard business software (MS Office Suite) required
  • Material estimating and take off experience desirable
  • Strong graphic, written, and verbal communication skills and attention to detail required

  • Oversees and manages construction administration phase while working in conjunction with larger project team.
  • Involvement in project documents development phases to assist with quality and coordination of drawings and specifications.
