Senior Designer

HFA, an award winning architecture and engineering firm with a national presence seeks a senior designer with 10-15 years of experience to join our team. This position can be located in any one of our three offices: Bentonville, Ark; Greater Boston, Ma; or Ft. Worth Tx.

Our successful marketing requires the addition of a senior designer to work on multiple commercial and retail projects simultaneously with high quality, thoughtful solutions in a fast paced environment.  This position requires exceptional graphic communication skills and the ability to communicate an idea quickly and effectively in a collaborative environment to program managers, project architects and the Vice-President of Design.

Knowledge and understating of the retail industry including merchandising, business strategy and visual presentation is important, as this role will relate face-to-face with the clients we serve.


One major objective will be to initiate innovative retail building design concepts and lead strategy efforts for multiple projects simultaneously.  Within 30-60 days become oriented to multiple client needs and establish rapport with each so that thoughtful designs concepts can help support decision making. You will meet the internal design teams and assess their capabilities and consider alternatives for deliverables and establish a plan, assign resources and execute.


Another major objective is that you’ll need to communicate effectively and work closely with clients while building trust and loyalty and directing the decision making process related to design.


The Role

This person will manage and mentor design teams, as most staff have 3-10 years of experience.

This role will maintain an active and visible presence in the design community through participating in industry events and conferences, involvement in professional organizations, and representing HFA in business development opportunities.


Within our organization, this person will collaborate with program managers, project architects, engineers and will report to the Vice-President of Design. You will manage a design team and mentor junior level personnel. Outside of our organization, the role will require interface with clients and potential clients.

  • Knowledge of and insight into retail design trends in areas such as emerging markets and experiential design and applying them is an asset
  • 10- 15 years of professional experience with a proven track record of leading the design of retail, commercial and mixed use projects
  • An advanced degree in architecture or design
  • Ability to use 2D/3D software, including AutoCAD, 3D Studio MAX, Sketch up, PhotoShop, In Design and Illustrator , and PowerPoint
  • Use of Revit a plus
